GreenSpirit Annual Gathering -
2008

Friday 26th to Sunday 28th September  2008 at Gaunts House, Wimborne, Dorset.

Join us as we come together to share and celebrate the many

ways in which we can and do relate with Earth.

Over recent years, understanding of how we relate to the earth has been deepened by an international movement loosely connected by the word “Ecopsychology”. The theme was explored in our Spring Journal, and now in our Annual Gathering we are delighted to welcome Tania Dolley (who co-founded and taught the Ecopsychology module at the Centre of Human Ecology) to draw on these ideas. She will introduce Relating with Earth and lead us into an experience of our “ecological self”: expanding our consciousness so as to know ourselves as diverse elements of a single earth community.

We shall also draw on the closely related framework of Matthew Fox’s “Four Ways”, known to many of us: opening to nature and celebrating its splendour; acknowledging and holding the suffering of a wounded world; expressing our creative energies towards a new vision; and drawing strength for the “Great Work” of our lives.

Popular features from our last gathering will enrich our time together. We will be using the friendly environment of “home groups” on Friday and Saturday and the informality of workshops on Saturday. Then in the evening we will gather as one community for a ritual space, with contributions from many participants, bringing together all four ways, including both the light and the darkness, and continuing into music, dance and drumming. On Sunday we will look towards our “making a difference” in the year ahead, with exchanges of ideas and our AGM.

The Gathering will be a landmark in an exploration of Ecopsychology carried out within GreenSpirit for the last two years, including the special issue of the Journal and a funded experiential research project into how attitudes and actions can be changed by practices that deepen our relationship with the Earth.

There will also be a children’s programme exploring the same themes
