GreenSpirit Social Network
Social networking is what everybody is into these days, young and old alike. But fun though they may be, the well-known social networking sites like Facebook, MySpace, Twitter, Bebo etc., are vast, impersonal – and public. Looking for like-minded people on these networks can be like looking for a needle in a haystack. GreenSpiritNet is something different altogether. If those vast networks are like cities, GreenSpiritNet is more like a village - a community where people soon get to know each other. And rather than exchanging just widgets, greetings and virtual teddy bears, here we have the space and the privacy to talk to each other about things that really matter, the ideas and thoughts that so many ‘GreenSpiriters’ share. GreenSpiritNet is a private, invitation-only network, created exclusively for our members. Yet it has all the same functionality as the mammoth sites like Facebook.
On GreenSpiritNet you can: |
||
- create and customise your own page
- visit other members’ pages and leave comments for them - send ‘friend’ requests to other members - send private messages to other members - join in the existing discussions (or start new ones on topics that interest you) - join special interest groups or create new ones - create a blog of your own - feed in a blog from somewhere else - share your photos, your videos, your favourite music |

How to Access the Site
Go to:
http://greenspiritnet.ning.com
And enter your email address and password. You should have received your password during the sign-up process. If you have forgotten your password, go to: http://greenspiritnet.ning.com/ and click on "Forgot your password?".
Getting Started
Once you have gained access to the site, you will see that you have your personal page there (called "My Page") You can change the layout, colours and look and feel of your personal page in any way you like, any time.
It is great if we can see each others’ faces. You can upload a picture of yourself, either during the initial sign-in process or later. (You can change any of your personal details – and your picture – any time just by going to ‘My Settings’ at the top right of any page).
To upload your picture, click the little blue and green picture frame next to where it says ‘your photo’ on the personal details page – and remember to press ‘save’ after you have done that. (Don’t get confused with the big button on the main page that says ‘photos’. That’s where you upload your favourite photos for other people to see and comment on).
Have fun exploring, leaving comments on people’s ‘comment walls’, joining groups, joining in discussions, starting groups and discussions of your own. And keep an eye on those tiny buttons right at the very top of the screen. That’s where you’ll receive private messages and ‘friend’ requests from other members.
You can start your own blog (you’ll see a place for that on your personal page) and if you already have a blog somewhere else you can feed it into GreenSpiritNet using the little RSS button in the lower left hand corner of your personal page.
