GreenSpirit 2016 Calendar: October's image and quotation

All are aspects of one entity, the living mountain. The disintegrating rock, the nurturing rain, the quickening sun, the seed, the root, the bird - all are one. Eagle and alpine veronica are part of the mountain's wholeness.

Horsham

The next meeting of our Horsham branch will take place on Wednesday 2nd November, from 7.00pm - 9.00pm at Horsham Unitarian Church.

The session will focus on the work of Thomas Berry (1914-2009), a major source of inspiration for the green spirituality movement. Berry was a Passionist priest by the age of twenty, and later became an academic specialising in cultural history. He believed that the environment is the primary manifestation of the divine and lamented the exploitative and destructive attitude of our species towards our home planet. He called for a different relationship, with humans working in cooperation with all members of the earth community. Berry advocated a narrative in which humanity sees itself as part of an unfolding cosmic community.

Please bring along a poem or prayer to share, celebrating the earth.

Maria Curtis
(Minister, Horsham Unitarian Church)

Easter Re-Claimed

Would you like to experience a shared Cosmic Easter?

You are invited to join us in spending Holy Week together, exploring the meaning of the Gospel story and how we understand it today in the context of the Universe story, and in the light of the visions of Teilhard de Chardin, Matthew Fox, Thomas Berry and Brian Swimme.

We endeavour to celebrate each day in ritual, music and words, in a creative group experience in which all contributions are welcome.

We meet in the Emmaus Centre, West Wickham situated in lovely surroundings, easily accessible from East Croydon, Hayes and Bromley.
The group will run from early afternoon on Maundy Thursday till after lunch on Easter Sunday.

The facilitator will be Mary Jo Radcliffe.

Nature Rearranged

Installations and photographs by Phil Barton

14th - 16th October 2016

Chester University

In conjunction with the Department of Media at Chester University, I will be showing photographs and installations at the new Tower Gallery over a weekend under the title: Nature Rearranged. Exploring the upset of natural balance caused by human's intense pressure on natural systems, the exhibition will showcase photographs of natural beauty of nature through new juxtapositions of form and colour. Installations will question the priorities our species gives to human concerns rather than natural ones and recent emergent works will draw on my feelings at the loss of mature trees in the Oxford Road corridor of south Manchester.

You would be most welcome to attend the opening on Friday 14th between 6.00 and 8.30 or to visit the gallery between 11.00 and 6.00 on Saturday or Sunday 15th/ 16th October. On the Sunday afternoon Helena Kettleborough and I will be running a workshop in the space between 3.00 & 5.00 drawing on the work, some of which we exhibit jointly as Barborough Kettleton. The exhibition is free. If you are planning to attend either the opening or the workshop, it would be helpful if you would let me know to help us to gauge numbers: pbarton1@btopenworld.com

You will find the venue here. The Tower Gallery is in the NW Media Centre off Crab Lane WA2 0DB.
