There was a standing ovation for Gary Albert’s performance of Luminosity, his musical composition. Gary is inspired by the writings of Brian Swimme – someone who has also inspired many in GreenSpirit.

Gary used his flute, voice, keyboards and laptop to bring together an array of sounds. The piece began with an adaptation of the tune Twinkle Twinkle Little Star and his spoken words conveyed the idea that as supernovas gave birth to the atoms that make up our bodies, we are stardust, we are atoms fused together in sacred prayer and in this way we all akin to stars.

There were many other themes covered: how our minds manifest what happens in the world, we are creators, the human is a space of the universe to feel its magnificent beauty and we are here to experience the world and be with all that it offers. Finally, in the same way that a tree grows or the universe is expanding, the flow of life through each of us is inevitable.

Whilst the music was quite wide ranging in its style, I found good portions of it to be ethereal and mystical, helping to transport me out into the cosmos and dream about what is, and what might become.

One of the best parts of the performance was the way that Gary embodied the music and its messages. He moved, maybe you could call it danced, to the sounds he created and his enthusiasm shone through. He embodied all that he was trying to convey; that the universe brings forth this magical, joyful and creative life-giving energy of which we are all part.

Gary has obviously thought deeply about the evolving universe and his performance was a living example of all that he was trying to convey. The performance was a work from his heart and this came across beautifully. I thoroughly enjoyed it.
